Strawberry Free Spirit
A cocktail for peak strawberry season.
It’s a celebration of strawberries, really. In this cocktail, their juices replace some of the simple syrup, and almost any clear spirit will do.
This recipe makes 2 cocktails
2 massive strawberries (or 4-5 normal sized ones)
4 oz gin, vodka, white rum or tequila blanco
2 oz lemon juice
1 1/4 oz simple syrup
Muddle the strawberry in a shaker until it has a jammy consistency. Add the other ingredients, shake with lots of ice and strain into a coupe. Garnish with a strawberry.
What liquor should you use?
Any clear spirit will work here—even aquavit or cachaça—but opt for something with a milder flavour profile. Ketel One vodka or Beefeater gin are my go-to choices, though I’ve also made this with rum and tequila, and every version has been a hit.
